Insides Outsides... (NA Basic Text)

"Insides Outsides""Our real value is in being ourselves."As we work the steps, we're bound to discover some basic truths about ourselves. The process of uncovering our secrets, exposing them, and searching our characters reveals our true nature. As we become acquainted with ourselves, we'll need to make a decision to be just who we are.We may want to take a look at what we present to our fellow addicts and the world and see if it matches up with what we've discovered inside. Do we pretend that…See More

Rocks or light?

Rocks or Light?Your task is not to seek for love, but to find the barriers in yourself that you have built against it. -A Course in Miracles The Hawaiian spiritual tradition teaches that every child born into this world is like a "bowl of light" containing the radiance of heaven. If rocks are placed into the bowl, the light of original innocence is hidden. Fear, guilt, and unworthiness are some of the stones that mask our true brilliance. The more rocks in our bowl, the less light we shine.…See More

A daily reminder / AA

An A.A. veteran, the main speaker at an anniversary meeting, sat waiting for almost two hours while other speakers dramatized many subjects--some of them foreign to A.A. Finally he was introduced. He spoke for thirty minutes, inspiring us with the humble virtues of A.A. His subject? Love and service.Have we ever visualized the power of true humility? Do we seek contented sobriety or A.A. recognition? Are our efforts inspired by love and service?Suggested Meditation The truly great members of…See More

Acting together, Cooperation

Acting Together.. Cooperation seems simple: working together toward a common goal for the benefit of all involved. But amazingly it can be quite challenging, even when we have so many successful examples all around us. Human society is based upon the concept of cooperation, but finding an alignment that ensures the good of all members of society is difficult. In nature, symbiotic relationships form between unlikely allies: a bee and a flower, a bird and a rhinoceros, small fish and sharks. Yet…See More

Recovery Commandos

RECOVERY COMMANDOSA woman shared about how she began to be troubled by a few little things, a few little problems, that she thought she really needed to handle on her own. They were private things, a bit embarrassing, and really no big deal. She began by not talking about the problems, and she continued by cutting down on meetings and isolating herself from her sponsor and others in the program. Using only the contents of her own head she found the answers her dragon was looking for. That she…See More

Putting our personal tools to use

Every craftsperson has a toolbox full of tools and a number of techniques to help them bring inspiration into form. In the same way, throughout our lives, we have discovered our own life tools and techniques-the ways and means that have helped us create our lives up to this point. Sometimes we forget about the tools and skills we've acquired, and we wonder why we aren't moving forward. At times like these, it might just be a matter of remembering what we already know, and rediscovering the…See More

Relying on a higher power..

"Relying on God has to begin all over again every day as if nothing had yet been done. -- C. S. LewisWe often try to turn our will and our life over to the care of God, as we understand God, but we're not always successful. We are human: We change our mind. We talk ourselves out of our good resolutions. We forget. We fall back into old, destructive habits of mind and mood. But all we have to do is make a decision. We don't have to do the actual turning over. We are, in fact, incapable of…See More

A very merry Yuletide!

Posted on December 11, 2016 at 8:00am 0 Comments

Crunch crunch white dry snow

falling lightly to and fro

covered streets of ghostly white

sparkling specks under the lights

twinkle twinkle in the wind

welcome travellers to come in

Yuletide trees and deck the halls

while lonely people stare at the walls

children sit on santas knee

wanting peace for you and me

leave him milk, leave him treats

even warmers for his feet

give him oats to feed reindeer

spread the love, spread the… Continue

My first Christmas 1969

Posted on December 4, 2016 at 8:00am 0 Comments

Id like to share with you this wonderful story about our first Christmas after we were adopted in 1969. My parents Tom and Jean Dunbar started that first Christmas by taking Randy and I to downtown Toronto to look at the Christmas scenes in all the big stores window fronts on Young Street. Sears, Eatons, Simpsons, The Bay, Woolworths and many more used animated figures to create these wonderful displays.

Mom had packed hot chocolate…

A problem with plastics

Posted on December 1, 2016 at 9:12am 0 Comments

Action is louder than words or so they say right? I know everyone is concerned about climate change and Canada's green house gas emissions yet we do nothing about it except drive bigger cars and trucks and bitch to ourselves about unnecessary plastic packaging. We leave it up to our political leaders who in my opinion are as useless as the plastics that are floating in our rivers and oceans. We take our lazy lifestyles for granted by tossing out everything plastic or leaving our trucks…

My Full Moon ice skate and one happy hockey dog..

Posted on November 23, 2016 at 10:03am 0 Comments

This story is based on the actual account of myself and a very friendly dog. I was staying with a friend up at Paul Lake. I decided to go make an ice rink on the frozen lake. I love skating. With a shovel and alot of energy I shovelled out a pretty decent sized rink. My friend Dwayne brought out a water pump and we augured a hole then flooded the surface smooth! A December full moon was quickly approaching and I decided to make a full moon jelly salad with blue jelly and marshmallows. It…
